Scottish Heather Honey Raw & Natural

Description

Raw Heather Honey from the Scottish Glens

Our heather honey comes from our own hives in Glen Clova and Glen Isla in the Angus Glens, and around Dunkeld in Perthshire, where the bees forage on wild heather moorland while it’s in bloom. We harvest it in late August. It’s a dark amber honey with a rich, slightly smoky, floral flavour that’s quite different from a light blossom honey.

Raw and unprocessed

Our heather honey is raw and chemical-free. We never heat-treat, pasteurise or fine-filter it. The only warmth it ever sees is a gentle warming, always below 40°C, to help it into the jar. It goes from the comb to the jar as the bees made it, natural pollen and all.

How we make it

Heather honey is thick and jelly-like, so it won’t spin out of the comb like other honeys. We use a special heather honey press to gently squeeze it from the frames, then store it at room temperature before jarring. We always leave the bees plenty of honey to see them through the winter.

How to enjoy it

Lovely on toast, porridge or Greek yoghurt, drizzled over cheese, or stirred into a hot drink. It also makes a thoughtful Scottish gift.

Heather honey FAQs

What is heather honey?
Honey made by bees that forage mainly on heather flowers. In Scotland that means moorland heather, which flowers in August and September.

Why is heather honey thicker than other honey?
Heather honey is thixotropic: it sets like a soft jelly and loosens when stirred. That’s normal and a sign of genuine heather honey.

Can raw honey crystallise?
Yes, all raw honey can set over time. Stand the jar in warm (not hot) water to soften it.

Is heather honey suitable for babies?
No honey should be given to children under 12 months.

Where does your heather honey come from?
Our own hives in Glen Clova and Glen Isla in the Angus Glens, and around Dunkeld in Perthshire. We harvest it in late August.

You’ll never try better honey than this!

  3. Ian Whitley (verified owner) –

One of the best tasting honey I have ever tried, within a month of starting on Wild Heather Honey, my energy levels have massively improved, no afternoon power napping, instead, I’m going for long walks and sleeping better at night. Overall feel much healthier. Don’t hesitate to give it a go.
