What is Milk Thistle Oil? (Silybum marianum)

Milk thistle is a plant from the aster family. It is a herb that has been known and widely used for centuries. Milk thistle is available in various forms, including oil, whole or ground seeds. Unrefined milk thistle oil is obtained by cold pressing milk thistle seeds (Silybum marianum), which allows the preservation of its natural qualities. After pressing, milk thistle seed oil is subjected to natural sedimentation, i.e. it is set aside in sedimentation containers for the settlement of any residues from the pressing process. Only after the optimal sedimentation time has elapsed, is the oil bottled in dark, glass bottles.

 

How to use Milk Thistle Oil

Milk thistle oil should only be consumed cold. You can pour it over salads, or use it in dips and dressings. For example, you can add milk thistle oil to milk, honey and lean cottage cheese to create a paste that is great as a side dish or dip. Externally, this oil can be applied directly to the skin, and can also be applied to dry, brittle hair as a moisturiser. It’s also an excellent oil for massages.
